Description

Sandoz ACETYLCYSTEINE is a derivative of the amino acid cysteine. The efficacy of Acetylcysteine is secretolytic (break up secretions/ phlegm) and secretomotoric (induce gland to secrete mucus) in the area of the respiratory tract (airway passages). The viscosity (thickness) of mucus will then be reduced. Furthermore, Acetylcysteine contributes to an increase in glutathione synthesis, which is important for the detoxification of noxae. This provides the explanation for its antidotal effect in paracetamol intoxication.

INDICATIONS: Treatment of respiratory affections charatecterised by thick & viscous hypersecretions (thick mucus or phlegm): acute or chronic bronchitis & its exacerbations, pulmonary emphysema, mucoviscidosis & bronchiectasis.
